The Anatomy of Type : Design Principles Research

I looked through the list on MOODLE and have also done extra research into anatomy of type. The use of reading articles and looking at images had furthered my knowledge and has been quite interesting.

Visual Literacy:

From reading this article i have found that visual literacy is key in communication. The way something is presented can be interpreted in different ways but when a specific thing is ported through image // symbols // written forms, it can be understood by thousands and be extremely effective.

WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION: Visual literacy is the ability to interpret, negotiate, and make meaning from information presented in the form of an image. Visual literacy is based on the idea that pictures can be “read” and that meaning can be communicated through a process of reading.

Expression and Informative symbols that are expressed through visual literacy:

Common subjects such as signs and symbols on roads or in public spaces are useful. Very basic layout design with a clear instruction or advisory her is often appreciated:

TYPOGRAPHY:

Wikipeadia definition:
Typography (from the Greek words τύπος (typos) = form and γραφή (graphe) = writing) is the art and technique of arranging type in order to make language visible. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefacespoint sizeline lengthleading (line spacing), adjusting the spaces between groups of letters (tracking) and adjusting the space between pairs of letters (kerning). Type design is a closely related craft, which some consider distinct and others a part of typography; most typographers do not design typefaces, and some type designers do not consider themselves typographers.[2][3] In modern times, typography has been put into motion—in film, television and online broadcasts—to add emotion to mass communication. [4]
Typography is performed by typesetters, compositors, typographers, graphic designersart directors, comic book artists, graffiti artists, clerical workers, and anyone else who arranges type for a product. Until the Digital Age, typography was a specialized occupation. Digitization opened up typography to new generations of visual designers and lay users, and it has been said that "typography is now something everybody does."[5]
